Statement of Centre Philosophy
Sydenham Community Preschool provides a warm, caring, stimulating, safe environment with respect for all children. We provide activities to meet the needs of individual and group learning, which meet developmental needs of the children in a holistic way incorporating all aspects of their physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth.
We believe: To work is to play, to play is to learn and to learn is to live.
Children are experts at teaching themselves the things they want to know. The role of the parent or educator should be to support them as they learn through collaboration with adults and peers, through guiding participation and observation of others, as well as through individual exploration and reflection.
We believe partnership with parents enhances the quality of the children’s care and education. Educators and management will promote a genuine partnership with parents built on mutual trust and respect.
Management and educators have a commitment to inclusive practice and all children, whanau and caregivers are welcome at the centre. We also acknowledge the principles of partnership inherent in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Management supports and is committed to being a good employer by employing qualified teachers who are willing to be involved and committed to ongoing professional development.
